what is oneworld?

Project one world is the first big project I got assigned at Media College. One world is a magazine that focusses on current news topics in the world. The briefing was to create a wordmark, cover and two spreads. There were articles provided and it was important that the style of everything I created matched that article.

I started this project by picking a brand value that suited the brand One world. And I chose connection because One world is all about connecting people to stories from around the world. From here I made a mindmap about the things I associated with my chosen article. I also made the sketches for my wordmark which all in their own way symbolise connection to me.

In the final version of the wordmark (which was made in illustrator) I chose to close the hole in both the letter “E” and “D”, this was to further emphasize the brand value of connection. I also chose to still make it feel like it was hand written because the article is about the younger generation and it tied into how a child would write.

I worked out the cover illustration in Procreate on my I-pad. I hadn’t worked with procreate much before this so it was a bit of a struggle to figure out but I am actually quite pleased with the end result. I wanted to work with lots of color to show that sense of youthfulness. When you take a look at the spreads theres a very stark difference there and that is absolutely intentional. I wanted to show that harshness of what it is to grow up as a young person in this world where the world is falling apart around us. That’s also why the font used for the heading has a sort of deteriorating look to it.  The text on the cover and the spreads were all made in InDesing and the images were all edited in Photoshop.
